7.19.14 Italy Day 2: Rome

I'm just going to start off with this: Rome was my least favorite city out of all the destinations that I travelled to. I was actually looking forward to it so much, having been obsessed with Russell Crowe's Gladiator for years, taking a Classics - History of Romans class at UCLA, and reading up on Roman history in my free time. But it was nothing like I expected, in a bad way. It seemed like a series of unfortunate series of events all day long for us, but in the best interests of this blog, I'm going to outline a few things that happened. Not going to add in all details, though.

  • night train
  • Termini Station
  • Colosseum
  • Trevi Fountain - under construction
  • double booked at hotel even though we checked in at earliest time possible
  • Vatican City
  • Spanish steps
Memorable characters:
  • Italian train conductor freaking turning on the lights in our box at 3am, blowing a freaking whistle, and screaming "BIGLIETTO!" (train ticket in Italian)
  • first hotel cleaning lady in her hot pink dress at 7 in the morning. mm
  • sassy tour guide at the Vatican. "Seriously?! Seriously."
  • #niiiii at the Spanish steps
  • and getting attacked by a rose

"Are you not entertained?!" - No Rome, I wasn't.
